DWIG – Forget The Pink Elephant

DWIG

One of my favourite albums from the year so far is Forget The Pink Elephant by DWIG (Die Wiese Im Garten)  on German label Giegling. As far as I am aware, this one is vinyl only and for me, it is a must-have for anyone that collects wax.

With some distributors it has been categorised as Deep House and although overall I’d be inclined to agree with that, ‘Forget The Pink Elephant’ stretches the confines of the genre through Downtempo, Minimal, Jazz and other raw sounds. The quirky arrangement of old jazz recordings, fuzzy hits and effects sits more with sound design than sampling. The whole album is a really clever and thoroughly engaging listen, right up to the last track ‘Old Times Good Times’.

This album was made for vinyl with the crackles and pops of the stylus only adding to the effect. I have enjoyed ‘Forget The Pink Elephant’ so much that I have recorded it to mp3 so that I can enjoy listening to it on my iPod!
