Various Artists – Orbital Planes & Passenger Trains Vol. 1

We were recently sent a digital version of the wonderful new compilation album on Serein, Orbital Planes & Passenger Trains Vol 1. The album is available on a range of formats, including vinyl and it features a quality catalog of artists, many of which have featured within Serein’s catalog at some point. The general flow of the music sits loosely within the Ambient field, with a fabulous dubby opener from Ametsub, a woozy haze from Benoit Pioulard, jazziness from Colorlist, a couple of short piano sketches from Otto A Totland (one half of Nest) and the Japanese combination of Yui Onodera and Chihei Hatakeyama.

All in all this is not one of those compilations that will pass you buy – if you give it half a chance, you’ll find yourself returning to it regularly. Designed for travel and commutes, this compilation was built with a theme in mind which aside from the sheer quality in the music, makes this one of the best compilations we’ve heard in a long time.
