Wodoo Wolcan – Summer Breeze

I’ve had my eye on this latest release on German imprint Radio Juicy for some time and yesterday I was pleased to receive the email alert I’d set with the label so I could check out all of the tracks. A couple of tracks into Wodoo Wolcan’s ‘Summer Breeze’ and I was set on purchasing as my expectations of a high quality album were confirmed. With a bright and kitsch cover image that absolutely encapsulates an exotic summer holiday, then why would this one come out now, deep into darkest November? Well, the music is a dishevelled style of Hip Hop that has very much been the flavour in the underground scene for the last couple of years. This year alone artists such as Jinsang, FloFilz and Nuttkase release excellent material but with ‘Summer Breeze‘, the woozy, lo-fi production evokes nostalgia – for me, of my summer holiday in Sorrento, Italy.

Whilst I enjoy the winter, there is something strangely satisfying about listening to summer music whilst sipping Chai latte and with a flawless selection of 13 tracks, this is a record that will get some heavy rotation from me this winter and beyond. Perhaps I’ll reflect nostalgically over the winter of 2016 when I listen to this by the pool next summer?
